Big Black Dress

Going out for a friend's birthday, I decided a big black dress was in order. ;-) This dress is my first experience with Yours Clothing, and I'm quite impressed. I got this dress on sale, and after reading the reviews, ordered a size 22 rather than my usual "just to be safe" 24. It fits perfectly. The material is a lovely swishy chiffon with a lining. The cut of the dress is lovely, with a comfortable elastic ruching around the waist, a full skirt over the hips and a not too low or too high neckline.

Outfit Details
Dress: Yours Clothing (22)
Shoes: Payless (11)
Handbag: Gifted
Necklace: Was a brooch from my Granny
Bracelet: Thrifted
Earrings: Gifted

As beautiful as heels look on other girls, I will always be a flats person, they're just too painful for me to wear. These sandals have a lovely little sparkle to them.

I refer to these earrings as my "D-day" earrings, my friend bought them for me while hanging out with me on the day of my divorce. They're a celebration of the end of an old life and the beginning of a new one.

I've avoided having a black dress for a while, not being one for a lack of colour, but I think with the pops of red I make it work. What do you think?

OOTD: Purple

A hot day, and I needed a casual, cool outfit for running errands and doing housework. You have noticed by now that I'm a big fan of purple. :-)

Outfit Details
Scarf: Gifted
Brooch: The Olive Tree Markets
Top: Big W (22)
Shorts: Autograph (22)
Belt: Thrifted
Leaf Earrings: Thrifted

Here you can see my fancy bandage accessory for my sprained ankle. You'll be seeing it for a while, as it's healing very slowly.

Autograph shorts are great. The denim is stretchy and comfy, while still maintaining a good shape. It comes up high enough that I'm not showing off my underwear. I got a size smaller than usual, as I find that denim tends to stretch. I can see these shorts being a staple in the coming summer months.

Burtonesque

I finally got an outside shot, thanks to a friend popping over. I'm trying out my We Love Colors tights and new Asos Curve tutu skirt. The skirt is lovely, though too large for me in the waist, I've been pinning it in with a safety pin. I stopped wearing the black knit vest later on, I think I popped it on because I was feeling a bit nervous going to pick up my kids from school in this outfit- I really stand out amongst all the other very casually dressed parents. For some reason the vest made me feel a bit safer. Weird I know.

I love the striped stockings from We Love Colors. Reminds me of Tim Burton movies. I love how the stockings look with my shoes. The tights only just fit though, they are a bit tight around the tops of my thighs. It would be great if We Love Colors offered some more plus sizes in this pattern.

A close up of my necklace, it's a favourite that I wear a lot. Both the polka dot clip and the necklace were picked up at the local artisan markets.

I promise this is the last of my mirror photos- I finally figured out the self timer on my camera. :-)

OOTD: Pattern Dress

Just a quick outfit post today, of an outfit I wore last week, when it was still cold.

I got this patterned dress for $20 from Millers, thanks to a gift card. It's a polyester kind of fabric so it won't be great for hot weather but it works well for the cold. I love the pattern, it reminds me both of the 70s, and stained glass windows. Once again I'm wearing my Autograph leggings, they have been a staple this winter.

Dress: Millers (22)
Leggings: Autograph (M)
Shoes: Wild Surf Co (Men's 10)
Necklace: Etsy

I love my new shoes! So fun to wear bright colours!

Spots and Skirts

Today was an in between weather day, which called for a not too hot, not too cold outfit.
I came up with this. My new Asos midi skirt, teamed up with a thrift shop shirt. I love how the skirt picks up on the blue in the top.

Top: Thrifted (Sara brand)
Skirt: Asos (24)
3/4 Leggings under skirt: Big W
Shoes: Target (11)
Earrings: Thrifted

Here's a closer look at the top, the material is a light pattern mesh over a lining, it's very breathable and comfy.

My best shot of the earrings (I know I know, but I can't figure out the macro setting on my camera yet).
I picked them up for $1 at an op shop (thrift shop) and they've been such a bargain- I wear them with lots of things.

OOTD: Asos red dress

This is my outfit of the day- another purple/red combo. What can I say, I love it!
The red dress is a recent purchase from Asos, from the clearance section. I couldn't find a link sorry, but it was called a red button-up dress I think. It looks completely different on me than on the model, I think I like it better!

Outfit details:
Purple top (22): Best and Less
Red dress (24): Asos
Belt: Thrifted
Leggings (M): Autograph
Shoes (men's 10): Wild Surf Co
Hair bow: The Olive Tree Markets
Brooch: Thrifted

I love how the dress has pockets. It buttoned up too high for my liking, so I just left the top two buttons undone, and let it lie back to make a collar. The buttons don't gape either, which is fantastic. The dress material is cool and comfortable, with a decent thickness to it. I think it will be hard-wearing.

I love my new red shoes. I've been looking for coloured shoes for ages, but I have a lot of trouble finding shoes, due to size 11 feet, and toes that can't stand being squished. I also have flat feet, and can't wear heels. I finally thought to look in a surf shop and found a great selection of colours in the men's section. They weren't super cheap ($80) but I think they'll last a while. I also got a $20 voucher for the shopping centre when I bought the shoes (I bought a turquoise pair too), and I bought a dress from Miller's with it. I think I've got enough shoes to last me at least 5 years now. So a big outlay of money for me, but it will pay off in the long-term.

Also, aren't my leggings from Autograph just fab? I love the sprinkle of sparkles the bottom. The material has a bit more stretchy in them than the ones I have from Big W, I think they're going to last longer before they sag. I got them for $20, on the sale rack.

New Release Domino Dollhouse

I wanted to start the post off with some articulate sentences, but all I can come up with is "ooooo pretty dresses!". Domino Dollhouse have released some new dresses and they are gorgeous! Personally, these dresses would be a save up for a special occasion event money-wise, but those of you with a bit more moolah, they are quite reasonably priced ($69-79), colourful and beautiful.
Domino Dollhouse has a lovely range of clothes that are way more interesting than the normal "plus-size" fare, and I love their use of colour in their products.

Check out their great range here.
And here are the delectable dresses! My favourite is the Berry Beautiful dress (the first one). :-)

Welcome!

Hi everyone!
I'm Bek, who lives in Australia. I've been reading a lot of fatshion blogs this year and you girls have inspired me, encouraged me, and given me the courage to try posting some outfits of my own.
Many thanks to my friend Dionne who tirelessly took all these photos whilst sick. I'm afraid my photos after this won't be so fancy.

Yeah, I can be a bit silly. :-)

My style ranges from pretty dresses, retro, thrifted to casual. I love quirky accessories, bright jewel-tone colours and things that are easy to move in (as I have two little active boys). My budget is limited, but my creativity is not. :-) Here is my first outfit.

Jacket: No Exceptions Clothing
Top: Best and Less
Skirt: Thrifted- Millers
Tights: We Love Colours- violet
Shoes: Big W
Necklace & Headband: The Olive Tree Markets

The purple and red colour combo is a favourite one at the moment. I was so excited when I found that skirt at the op shop, it was brand new with the shop tag still on it. It was a size 22, I usually go for a 24 in bottoms, but it always pays to try on thrift shop stuff. Luckily it did fit, it just sat a little higher on my waist than it was meant to. The jacket is great, I do a proper review of it over at Fat Heffalump's blog here.
The best part of the jacket is the back. Ruffles and lacing! So good.

So, onto accessories. This headband was a great find, the first one that didn't give me a headache to wear. In Newcastle, where I live, there is a monthly artisan market called The Olive Tree Markets. So many cute things and beautiful things that people can make, headband included.

The owl necklace is gorgeous, from the same markets. It came with a fine silver chain, which didn't survive my kids. I found a hair ribbon in my dressing table drawer, and threaded it through instead. I like it better this way, I can adjust the length, and the colour is better.

That's it for my first post, feel free to leave me a comment, and looking forward to next time!

Bek xoxo :-)
