Aussie Curves- Festival

I'm taking this week's theme to mean what would I wear to a festival. I've only been to one music festival, which was the jazz festival at Morpeth. You'll never find me at festivals like the Big Day Out, crowds of people freak me out. I'd much rather listen to music in small settings, like the local pub band. Not that I get to go to that stuff since becoming a single mum. I'm pretty happy listening to music in my loungeroom. But anyway, if I was going to a festival, I'd wear comfy clothes. Stuff that holds up to sweat and dirt. Sleeves and sunglasses, for a bit of sun protection. Non dangly earrings, supportive shoes for any dancing that may occur. And my usual pop of colour.

I just picked up this tee from Best and Less for $6. Score! My shorts are from Autograph a while back, and I wear them a lot in the warm weather. So far they're holding up nicely, and don't ride up my legs when I walk.

The only leather item I own are boots. I thought I'd show off my new Autograph winter skirt while I was at it. The skirt is a soft warm knit, and I love the red. Very comfy- I got it on sale when it first came out. The top is from Best and Less that I picked up in the holidays. I thought I could do with a cheap black top, and I liked the studded detail on the shoulders. The boots are from Autograph- from the first time they brought footwear into the store. I was so excited to find boots to fit my calves, and that went up to my size 11. I've had them a few years now and they're still going well.

Aussie Curves- Pyjamas

This week the Aussie Curves theme is pyjamas (or pajamas, which is the American spelling). I'm a big fan of them, I like comfy and if they're cute it's a bonus. Best and Less came up with both, I can never resist polka dots! 

I'm currently reading The Enchanted Wood to my kids. It's great that they're old enough to start hearing all my childhood bedtime favourites. I can't wait to show them Narnia and Hogwarts when they get a bit older.

Aussie Curves- Mixing Patterns

This week the Aussie Curves challenge is about mixing patterns. It's not something I've really tried on purpose before. I love patterns and have a lot of them, I just haven't mixed them together! I decided on trying to mix both colours and patterns, why not jump right in the deep end, right? I love the red and blue colour combo, and thought I'd try mixing my polka dot shirt with my floral skirt. I think it works!

I picked up the polka dot shirt a little while ago from Big W. The skirt is a Target brand find from the op shop (must have been back in the day when they made coloured plus-size stuff). The skirt is a bit big, I had to safety pin it at the back. 

My shoes are from Best and Less, they were only $10 at the time, and came in a snug size 11. My hair bow and necklace are from my favourite local markets, the Olive Tree Markets. My bracelet set is from Yours Clothing. I like the colours and the elastic which means it fits my wrist, but the quality isn't great. The knots on it made from string or something, are starting to unravel.

Aussie Curves- Dark

I almost didn't get this theme done this week, I've been busy, and dark isn't really a theme I'm into. I have one black dress that I'm saving when we have the LBD theme, and most of my other dark shade colours were used in previous weeks. I could just wear all black, but I'm not a fan, wearing all black makes me feel depressed. Then I remembered I had this spotty dress.

Yes it's black, but the white spots make it fun. I picked this dress up at Best and Less for about $40 years ago and it's really been value for money. The pattern reminds me of a starry sky. It is comfy and easy to wear too.

I usually pair this dress with red accessories, but I went with purple to keep it more in the "dark" theme. The bag I'm holding is a vintage bag that used to be my Mum's when she was young and single. :-)

Just trying to show you all my accessories in one pic. The necklace is from the op shop, the bracelet from a market, the hair flower from Target, and I made the button earrings myself. I added the hair ribbon to the pendant, I think it goes nicely. Also, you can adjust the length really easily, which I like.

Aussie Curves- Pastels

A little more challenging was the theme of pastels this week. I usually stick to bright, rich jewel tones in my clothes, they're what I'm drawn to. However, knowing that pastels was coming up, I picked up this dress from Asos Curve back when it was on sale.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed wearing this lovely lavender purple. I'm a fan of purple, but had never tried out this shade before. The swishy skirt was made even better by the addition of a Domino Dollhouse petticoat in lavender. I love how the frill just sticks out around the bottom of the dress. I felt quite girly and pretty wearing this outfit, I wore it to a late birthday lunch with one of my friends that didn't make it to my birthday dinner. Domino Dollhouse petticoats are so soft and comfortable to wear, despite it being a warm day I wasn't uncomfortable.

Yes I know I should have ironed the dress. But is was hot and sticky weather and I just couldn't be bothered. I paired the dress with my pretty wedge sandals from Big W.

In wearing the pastel colour I needed a different shade of lipstick, and found a new shade that I love! I'll have to look for it at the shops (its an old small sample lipstick back when I did Avon, so I need a decent substitute). If not for the dress I would never have tried it, so yay! You may have noticed that a hair flower is a signature style for me. As eclectic as my outfits get, I nearly always wear a hair flower. These pretty ones are from Best and Less.

Necklace used to be my Grandma's. Earrings are from Big W. I put the brooch on (a gift from a friend) as the neckline is way lower than I'm comfortable with. I'll put a few stitches in it later.

Aussie Curves: Red

This week on the Aussie Curves Challenge we're doing "Red". An easy theme for me as I love red- it makes me feel confident and happy. It was a matter of which red item to choose. I finally decided on this awesome gingham dress from Asos Curve (a new purchase so it was my first wear out!). I ordered a 24, which is a little big on top, but still doable.

It was a super windy day so I stuck my hair in pigtails. The material of the dress is cotton- comfy and breathable. I can see myself wearing this a lot in summer. I also love feeling like I'm wearing a cafe tablecloth. ;-)

I know it's not red (I wanted a red one but they were sold out) but I slipped a Domino Dollhouse petticoat underneath the dress to give it more foof. Everyone should have one of these in their wardrobe, they are SO comfy and soft, not scratchy at all.

Another awesome thing about this dress- it has pockets. Good size pockets!

I popped on some bracelets from Yours Clothing, they came in a set of 3- red, white and blue. They are a good size for my thick wrists.

This little owl necklace is one of my favourites. I picked him up from my local artisans market, The Olive Tree Markets. All the wares there are handmade. The owl came with a chain that my kids promptly broke, so I threaded in a ribbon which I actually like much better.

These earrings were picked up for $3 at a market at my son's school. I like the interesting design on them.

My shoes were such a bargain- picked up from Best and Less for $10! I couldn't believe they had a size 11. I love the polka dots inside.

Of course a red dress needs a red lipstick! This is a cheapie from Aldi, which then promptly stopped stocking the shade. Oh well I'll enjoy it while it lasts. My favourite polka dot hair bow is also from the Olive Tree Markets.

This is last time you'll see me with long hair! I got my hair cut short recently and I love it.
