Aussie Curves- Polka Dots

I was excited to see that Polka Dots was the theme this week, as I am a big fan. I have polka dot pyjamas, polka dot hat, polka dot plates and of course polka dot clothes. I decided to recreate what I wore for my birthday last weekend. This pretty dress was marked down to $20? (can't remember) from City Chic, which is the first thing I've bought from them. Usually their prices are too high for my budget, and they don't seem to have 70% off as often as Autograph, so I don't usually pay them much attention. But the price was right for this dress! I like that the straps are adjustable, as I needed to adjust them a lot (the usual fit around the hips, too big up top problem). The dress is comfy to wear and I love the combo of ruffles and polka dots. It came with a belt made out of the dress material, but I found a more structured belt worked better.

To offset the chill as I went out for birthday dinner (if you're ever in Newcastle, El Nonno in Hamilton have yummy Italian food and great service for reasonable prices) I wore my Domino Dollhouse jacket. Both the jacket and the dress were having their first outing, by the way. I turned up the cuffs so you could see the adorable polka dot print on the lining. The jacket doesn't photograph well, but the colour is a rich burgundy velvet, so nice to wear. I like the crop length too, especially over dresses.

I wore my awesome op shop find boots. I like how the jacket, boots and studded belt add a bit of edge to the pretty floaty dress.

The bunny brooch and polka dot hair bow were birthday presents given to me on the night, which I promptly wore. The necklace is a dark purple stone from my Grandmother, it's not exactly right with the dress but I couldn't find a better match.

My bracelet and my sparkly handbag are both op shop finds. The bow on the handbag is the belt from my dress.

I've assembled some other polka dot looks for you, which can be found here, here and here. I still have two more polka dot clothing items I haven't featured on the blog, maybe I'll show them off this week.

  1. I am totally jealous because you can do belted waists and peplums and they look amazing on you. My boobs are too big for both (makes me look like I'm all boobs above the waist!!). This is a great look on you and it makes me think 'gamer girl'. Maybe because it reminds me of the kind of outfits I see at conventions. Oh yeah, and polka dots totally rock.

    1. Thanks! I'll have to look out for the after Christmas sales then, thank for the tip. I love my polka dot peplum, but to be honest it's not the best quality. The material pills very easily. Cute to wear though!

  4. Hi Bec, I enjoyed your lovely post. I was at an op-shop in the last few days and noticed all the lovely handbags, I wish now I had had a closer look. Maybe I can go back there another day. It was an op-shop I hadn't been to before. I am a Christian too, my daughter last week went to an op-shop and found a top brand t-shirt for $4 she is still really happy about that, Bardot I think it was.

I realised I do have something polka dot that is some plus sized underwear. That is the first thing that I bought this year to start off fixing my tired wardrobe, K-mart have some lovely underwear. It made such a difference, I never believed that before. Same with my hair, a bit of jewellery, though I am not so much into it yet, may take awhile to get used to it. I put my name at the end of last week's blog hop.

    1. Op shops are great aren't they? Like treasure hunting. :-)
It's always nice to have pretty underwear, makes you feel good even if no one sees it. It's important to take care of yourself I think. I wasn't always this interested in fashion, it's something that grew over time, it might with you too. xx

  8. I agree, I like crop kackets with dresses. It allows the dress to still be a bit floaty, and also gives great shape to the body. :)

I also looovvee the polka dot peplum top! It looks great on you!

    1. This is the first time I've had a crop jacket and I'm loving it, it lets you be warm without hiding the shape of the dress. Thanks, seems the polka dot peplum is popular in the comments today!
